Architectural Glass & Metal Technician

An expert who focuses on designing, fabricating, and installing glass and metal structures in buildings is known as an architectural glass and metal technician. These construction industry workers are in charge of designing and fabricating attractive and useful glass and metal components for both commercial and residential structures.

 

Interpreting architectural drawings, measuring and cutting glass and metal, assembling and mounting glass panels, framing and mounting metal structures, and ensuring that all installations and materials adhere to safety regulations and building rules are just a few of their responsibilities. They might also collaborate with engineers and architects to create original ideas that are tailored to the project's particular needs and specifications.

Minimum Standards

  • Grade 12 Diploma preferred (Grade 10 minimum)
     

Apprenticeship

8000 hours of on-the-job training, supplemented by three 8-week sessions of in-class technical training.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take measurements, precision-cut, fit, and install glass panes, window components, and architectural metals. 

  • Interpret drawings and specifications for accurate execution.

  • Proficiently handle plastic, granite, aluminum panels, and other materials serving as glass alternatives.

  • Operate from mobile equipment, scaffolds, and swing stages, occasionally at considerable heights, to handle and position glass panels lifted by cranes and other lifting machinery.
