Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Setter

Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Setters are skilled tradespeople who specialize in installing and finishing various types of flooring, including ceramic, porcelain, marble, and terrazzo. They use a variety of tools and techniques to measure, cut, and lay tiles and stones in patterns, and finish them with grout, sealant, and other materials. Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Setters work on residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects and must be able to read and interpret blueprints and follow precise specifications. They must also be able to work efficiently and safely to ensure that the finished product meets high standards of quality and durability.

Minimum Standards

  • Grade 12 Diploma preferred (Grade 10 minimum)
     

Apprenticeship

8000 hours of on-the-job training, supplemented by three 8-week sessions of in-class technical training.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Measure, cut, fit, install and/or secure glass panes, window parts & architectural metals

  • Read and interpret drawings & specifications

  • Work with and install plastic, granite, aluminum panels and other similar materials used as glass substitutes

  • Work from mobile equipment, scaffolds and swing stages, sometimes at great heights, to manoeuvre glass panels that are lifted by cranes and other lifting equipment

Certified Tradesperson Wage:
Approx: $36/hr 

Terrazzo is a composite material that is typically made by combining pieces of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other materials with a cementitious or epoxy binder. The mixture is poured and then cured to create a hard, durable surface that is often used for flooring, countertops, and decorative finishes
