Reinforcing Rodworker

A Reinforcing Rodworker, also known as a rebar worker, is a skilled tradesperson who is responsible for installing reinforcing steel bars, also called rebar, in concrete structures. They must have a good understanding of blueprints and drawings, as well as the ability to use a variety of tools and equipment to cut and shape rebar to the required specifications. Reinforcing Rodworkers may be responsible for bending and tying rebar, as well as installing and spacing it correctly within the concrete forms. They work in a variety of construction settings and must follow strict safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the job.

  • Strong communication, reading, numeracy & Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to interpret blueprints & specifications

  • Very good muscular coordination, agility & balance

  • Willingness to work at various work sites

Minimum Standards

  • Grade 12 Diploma preferred (Grade 10 minimum)
     

Apprenticeship

4000 hours of on-the-job training, supplemented by one 8-week & one 4-week block of in-class technical training.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Choose, cut, bend, position, and fasten steel bars or wire mesh to reinforce concrete.

  • Interpret blueprints and specifications to plan out the work.

  • Operate tools and equipment safely.

  • Unload materials to access, relocate, or hoist them as necessary.

  • Guide crane operators using hand signals or radios.

Approx: $46/hr
