A Painter & Decorator (Commercial & Residential) is a skilled tradesperson who applies paint, wallpaper, and other decorative finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, such as homes, offices, and commercial spaces. They must have a good understanding of paint application techniques, color theory, and surface preparation. Painter & Decorator (Commercial & Residential) may also be responsible for repairing and priming surfaces before applying finishes. They work in a variety of settings and must follow strict safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries on the job. They may also be responsible for selecting and ordering paint and other materials.

Duties & Responsibilities

Apply paint or other finishes, such as stains, lacquer, or varnish, using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.

Prepare and clean surfaces before painting.

Remove old wallpaper and paint from surfaces.

Repair cracks and holes in walls.

Mix and thin paint as needed.

Measure, cut, and apply wallpaper or fabric to walls.

Construct and install scaffolding as required.

Offer advice to customers on color selection and choice of wall coverings.

Provide cost estimates for projects.

Read specifications to determine the necessary materials for a job.
